How Much Does a Website Cost for a Newcastle Small Business in 2026?

Website quotes in Newcastle range from a few hundred dollars to tens of thousands. Here's what each type of site actually involves, what we charge, and the ongoing costs people forget.
It's one of the first questions we get asked, and it's a fair one. A Newcastle business owner gets three quotes for a website and they're wildly different. One is a few hundred dollars. One is a few thousand. One is enough to make them close the laptop and stick with the Facebook page for another year.
The gap usually isn't someone ripping you off. It's that the quotes are for different things. This piece breaks down what you're actually paying for at each level, what we charge, and the ongoing costs that tend to get left out of the conversation.
What actually drives the price
Most of the cost of a website is time. How many pages need designing and writing. Whether the design is custom or a template. Whether someone is writing the copy or you're supplying it. Whether it needs bookings, online payments, a shop or connections to other software. And how much thought goes into getting the site found on Google and turning visitors into enquiries.
When you compare quotes, compare what's included, not just the number at the bottom.
DIY website builders
Platforms like Squarespace, Wix and Shopify let you build a site yourself for a monthly subscription. The upfront cost is low. The real cost is your time, and the result depends heavily on how comfortable you are with design, writing and the technical side of search.
For a brand new business testing an idea, this can be the right call. We'd rather you start with something simple and honest than wait a year for a perfect site. Where it tends to fall down is when the business grows and the site doesn't. It looks like every other template, it's slow, and you can't change the things that matter without breaking something.
A single landing page
A one-page site that explains what you do, shows some proof, and makes it easy to call, book or enquire. For a lot of trades, new hospitality venues and service businesses, this is all you need to start. Prices vary between freelancers and agencies, so get a few quotes and compare what's included.
Our Local Launch Pack is $2,500 once-off. It includes a conversion landing page, Google Business Profile setup, a professional photo pack of 15 to 20 images, a Canva social starter kit and a feature in Newcastle Digest. It's built for businesses opening, relocating or finally presenting themselves properly online.
A custom small business website
This is where most established Newcastle businesses land. Somewhere between four and ten pages: home, services, about, contact, maybe a page per service or suburb. Custom design, proper copy, mobile performance and the basics of search built in from the start. Quotes for this level vary a lot between freelancers and agencies, so compare what each one includes.
Our custom websites start from $2,500. That covers a custom design and build of four to seven pages, SEO-ready structure, conversion-focused copy, forms and booking connected to how you take enquiries, and 14 days of support after launch. Most sites are live in around 14 days. Bigger builds are quoted on scope.
Ecommerce and more complex sites
Online shops, membership areas, custom booking systems and integrations with your existing software all add time, and so they add cost. The number of products, how stock is managed, shipping rules and payments all affect the quote. These projects are almost always priced individually. If someone gives you a fixed price for an ecommerce site without asking how many products you have, ask more questions.
The ongoing costs
The build is a one-off. A website also has running costs, and these are the ones that surprise people.
- Domain name. Your .com.au address is renewed with a registrar, usually every year or two. It's a small cost, but make sure it's registered in your business's name, not your web developer's.
- Hosting. Where the site lives. Included in DIY builder subscriptions, separate for custom sites. Cheap hosting is often slow hosting, and slow sites lose visitors.
- Maintenance and updates. Security updates, small content changes, fixing things when a plugin or form breaks. Some businesses pay a monthly fee, others pay as needed.
- Email, software and plugins. Business email, booking tools, payment fees and any paid plugins all add up over a year.
Ask any developer you're talking to for the expected yearly running cost, not just the build price. A good one will tell you straight.
A website on its own doesn't bring in customers
This is the part people skip. A new website is a destination. It still needs people to arrive. That means a Google Business Profile that's set up properly, some local search work so you show up when someone in Lambton or Charlestown searches for what you do, reviews that build trust, and a reason for people to visit in the first place.
That's why we sell websites alongside the rest of it. Our Visibility Boost is $750 once-off and covers Google Business Profile optimisation, priority local SEO fixes, a website conversion review and a Newcastle Digest spotlight. Our Growth Partner package is $1,999 a month with no lock-in, covering ongoing local SEO, social content, quarterly shoots, Testimo review automation and a quarterly Digest feature.
What to ask before you sign
How many pages are included? Who writes the copy? Who owns the domain, the hosting account and the site once it's paid for? What does it cost each year to keep running? What happens if I want changes after launch? Clear answers to those five questions will tell you more about a quote than the price does.
If you're not sure whether you need a new site or just a better one, apply for a free growth audit. We review 10 Newcastle businesses each month, look at your website, Google presence and reviews, and tell you the three things we'd fix first. Sometimes the answer is that your current site is fine.
